Anyone in the Entertainment industry knows that its a continual submission, audition, and then work cycle. When submitting for jobs, it can sometimes be a numbers game. The more you submit, the more chance you have for getting more audition and more work.
The drawback to applying and applying is that most casting directors and photographers that respond, expect you to know who they are and what the project is about when they contact you back. An easy way to keep track of your submission is to print thinks out or have a contact management program so that you can pull up the contact and all the info right there on your computer screen when they contact you.
I suggest Act 2000, Prophet from Avivian, or Outloook Contact Manager. It may seem tedious at first but once you make a habit of it, its easy and saves you more time in the long run, and possibly saves you jobs. Having a record of who you contact and who contacts you can also helpo you to avoid scams.
Most software programs allow you to mass email as well so for examples, you can email the photographers in NYC when you plan to travel there so they can go ahead and book you.

Basically what happens is they send you a check or get your credit card info and ask for money back. then the check bounces. its one of the older check scams out there but people still fall for it.

Yes, you can photograph yourself! There are several ways to get this done without using your old webcam and taking those grainy nasty shots.
Canon cameras come with software that has a timed shoot software. You tell it how often to shoot and pose away!
Sony also has a remote for their cameras(bad thing there is its harder to hold the cord)
10 Tips to taking your own pics:
1. Light up you photography area more! The more light the better, even if you aren’t showing your face. Poor lighting makes for weird shadows and grainy images.
2. Put the camera on a tripod. They cost about $30 and you can get better angles and not have the camera fall on the floor(breaking it).
3. Move the camera around. Don’t put the camera in one spot all the time. Experiment and have fun with it.
4. Music: whatever gets you in the mood. Dom photos? Lord of Acid or NIN, Soft and sexy? put on some jazz.
5. Take more photos than you think you need. You don’t want to be going through photos and find out that only a few turned out when you really needed 5-6 or more
6. Pay attention to your limbs and tummy. Don’t scrunch up in a ball, it creates lines and wrinkles we all have as women but they look like shit in photos.
7. Take test shots of your area you are photographing. Marl the area off with whatever is handy. Soda cans work great, just don’t put them in the photos unless you plan to do a lot of cropping.
8. Take large images. You can always resize them later.
9. Put a mirror behind the camera. This will help you to pose and get a feel for what you look like in the photos. Just make sure the camera and the mirror are facing the same way. Otherwise you will be surprised. Don’t look into the mirror when the the camera shutter goes off.
10. Shimmer lotion is great for photos. It makes skin gleam and accents the length of legs, cleavage, and necklines.
There are a ton of tips I could dish out here but this will get you started. I even do my own photosets(25-120 pics each set) and video for my paysite.
